Bhutan is a forward-facing nation which also honors its past. Nowhere is this better captured than in the Royal Textile Academy’s Fashion, which celebrates the national costume as well as bold and ingenious contemporary fashion created by Bhutanese designers.
The Fashion Show showcases award-winning submissions from the Textile Museum’s National Design Competition while providing a platform for local designers to display their genius on the runway. The annual Competition encourages weavers to design quality weaves which not only espouse traditional patterns and designs as well as innovative modern designs. Entries include ghos, kiras and embroidery works sent in from all over the country to be displayed by models and judged by a panel for quality of the weaves, color combinations, and design.
